Worship Committee

Providing opportunities for worship that help people develop and strengthen their relationship with God and live more faithfully as Christian disciples.

Ushers & Greeters

The Worship Committee consists of nine members which include the pastor, church pianist and choir director. The Worship Committee works closely with the pastor to assist when needed.

Prior to the Lenten season, the committee works with the pastor to assure that each service is outlined in an invitation which is sent to the community.  The Lenten season begins with the Ash Wednesday service.  Palm Sunday is celebrated with the children and adults of the church waving palm leaves.  We are continuing to have a most meaningful Maundy Thursday service which prepares us for Easter Sunday. Easter Lilies which are used in the sanctuary are purchased in memory or honor of those who serve or have served the church.

Early in the fall of each year preparations are made for the Christmas celebrations. These plans include invitations to the community to attend all of the services and celebrations of Jesus birth.  The first of these celebrations is the Hanging of the Greens, a service that all are invited to attend.  Following a short service, the church is decorated starting with the tree in the sanctuary being adorned with white
chrismons which have been made by the congregation. During the Advent season, we share the nativity scene that was made by the UMW women.  Each week of the Advent season different symbols of the scene are added until the completion of the Birth of Christ.

Memorial gifts are directed through the Worship Committee.  The committee always welcomes suggestions for gifts that undesignated.

Responsibility for setting up for Baptisms includes coordination with the pastor and the presentation of a baptism candle and flower the individual and recognition of the family.

Ushers and greeters for each Sunday of the year are selected by the worship committee at their meetings.  Communion Stewards are also scheduled for the service which is held on the last Sunday of each month. Communion is served at the front of the sanctuary and delivered to those with special needs.

The music ministry is very important at Centennial UMC. We are blessed by our choir September through May, and also by those who share special music on occasion.
